Monaco by Bill Yonescu

Subject: Monaco Date: Mon, 11 Sep 2000

Hi Again,

Here\'s some photos of the Monaco, finished similar to the Riviera already displayed on your photo board #1. Being the second one I built, it came out a little nicer (my opinion) that the first. It also has the MreCruiser 350 MAG MPI (315 HP) engine and almost reaches 50 mph. Each boat took about 10 months full time (I\'m slow) and the raw materials cost about 19K$. I have plenty intermediate photos if anyone would be interested in seeing them.

Nothing in the works for now.. I\'m going to display both boats at the Norwalk, CT Boat Show with the hope of stimulating some interest in building similar boats for interested buyers.

January, 2017. I really loved the look of the Chris Craft style boats when I was younger. Much later in life I found the Glen-L website and realized I could have the best of two worlds. I could own a beautiful wood boat and I could build it also! I started around October 2013 and finished in December 2016. It took just over 2000 very enjoyable hours.

My name is Alan Close and live in Logan, (halfway between Brisbane and the Gold Coast) Queensland, Australia. I originally bought the Monaco plans in 1997 but only started the build in May 2008. The frame timber is Hoop Pine and is planked in 4mm Hoop Pine ply. The bright timber is Red Mahogany, a local eucalypt (Eucalyptus resinifera). The boat is being powered by a Toyota Lexus 4 Litre V8 driving through a Borg Warner 71C velvet drive.

23 June 2014

Launch day - Saturday, June 21 - christened \"Aloha\" - lots of champagne - you would think Don had given birth!!

Four and one-half years of fun building her!

Thanks to all of you who provided labor, ideas, or moral supportl Still some work to do, but we will be giving rides on Wednesdays at Lake Hodges soon!

To Gayle at Glen-L - Here is your latest Monaco! She rides perfectly and we think she ran out at about 60 mph.

Thanks to you for your help and to your great dad for designing this beautiful boat!

We will put together a little album for the blog soon.

Monaco by F. Gill Kronenburg, Deltaville, Virginia

January, 2016 The 19' 6" "Glen L" design inboard Monaco was started as a spare time project in 2009 and finished in 2015. Builder F. Gill Kronenburg launched her in Deltaville VA on October 4, 2015. Woods used are 4' x 8' sheets of 3 mil hydratec ripped to various widths using the cold mold process, white oak, African, and Canberra mahogany, and fir plywood. A Barr Marine 350 zips her along at 52 knots. Kronenburg says that at age 65 and having worked residential construction his entire life, he considers this project more complex and satisfying than any other. In-water photography is by Tom Chillemi of Mathews VA.
